Kaleidoscope History
It all started with an idea to educate, empower, and encourage women to take action in their health and women’s cancers. The Kaleidoscope platform began in 2007 under the title Frosted Pink, a show combining ice skating and song to empower women. In 2008, Frosted Pink expanded to Frosted Pink with a Twist, to include gymnastics following the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics but continued to remain focused on health and women’s cancers.
Following two years of successful awareness and activation surrounding women specific cancers, the Kaleidoscope initiative was created in 2009 in an effort to use “skating, song, and survivorship” to raise awareness and inspire action surrounding all types of cancers that touch women. Kaleidoscope 2009 was co-hosted by cancer survivor Oliva Newton-John and David Foster in Washington, D.C. and aired on Thanksgiving Day on FOX. In 2010, Kaleidoscope once again utilized their trademark “skating, song, and survivorship” to expand their platform and raise awareness of the key issues surrounding all types of cancer, with survivorship as the key focus. Kaleidoscope 2010 was co-hosted by cancer survivors Dorothy Hamill and Scott Hamilton in San Antonio, Texas and aired as a holiday special in December on FOX.
Over the past two years, Kaleidoscope has touched the lives of over 9.8 million cancer survivors and caregivers through a nationally televised ice skating extravaganza…one day each year. This year Kaleidoscope has expanded beyond the annual broadcast to keep the survivor community connected throughout the year, in an effort to inspire and empower cancer survivors and their loved ones to celebrate life in living color.
